Another Awards Sweep

STANFORD, Calif. - Senior defender Julia Massaro and sophomore attack Ali Baiocco won the Pac-12 Defensive and Offensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

This is the third career Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week accolade for Massaro, who earned the honor twice last season. Massaro obliterated the school record with 18 draw controls in an 18-12 win over Oregon on Sunday. She surpassed the old mark of 11, which she set last season at Cal. She also broke the school's single-season draw controls record on Sunday, surpassing the record of 86 she set last season.

Massaro also led Stanford with a six draw controls and four ground balls in Friday's dramatic come-from-behind overtime victory at No. 22 Colorado. For the week, she finished with 24 draw controls (an average of 12.0/game when the school record was 11 entering the weekend), in addition to five ground balls and a caused turnover.

This is also the third career Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor for Baiocco and the second this year (March 4). Baiocco finished the weekend with nine goals, five assists and 14 points. She was 5-for-5 on free positions with three ground balls, two caused turnovers, 60.0 shooting percentage and 86.7 shots on goal percentage.

In the 13-12 come-from-behind overtime victory at No. 22 Colorado on Friday, Baiocco led all scorers with four goals, two assists and six points. She was a perfect 3-for-3 on free position attempts and assisted on the go-ahead goal with 3:32 left. Two days later, Baiocco finished with a career-high eight points (five goals, three assists) in the win at Oregon. She also scooped two ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Stanford also swept the weekly awards on March 4 behind Baiocco and sophomore goalkeeper Trudie Grattan. In all, Stanford has won the offensive honor twice this year and the defensive award on four occasions.

Massaro, Baiocco and the Cardinal take on Cal at Cagan Stadium on Friday night. The regular season finale also marks Senior Day for Stanford. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
