Taking Home Thompson Trophy

NEW LONDON, Conn./ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Stanford sailing won the Thompson Trophy in Connecticut and finished fifth at the Navy Spring regatta in Maryland over the weekend. 

Stanford brought the Thompson Trophy back to The Farm with a victory over 17 schools on the Long Island Sound. The Cardinal finished with 200 points, which was 74 better than second-place Harvard. Coast Guard took the bronze with 299 points.

Freshman skipper Wiley Rogers and sophomore crew Victoria Thompson were sixth in the A division with 94 points. The duo finished in the top five in seven of the 13 races and won one. 

Meanwhile, in the B division, freshman skipper Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo and senior crew Meg Gerli were runner-ups with 70 points. The Crimson were first with 59 as Stanford finished in the top three five times.

The regatta was won in the C division where sophomore skipper Jack Parkin and junior crew Taylor Kirkpatrick won seven of the 13 races and finished with just 36 points. Parkin and Kirkpatrick finished in the top three in all but two races. Tufts was second with 82 points. 

In Maryland, Stanford finished fifth with 205 points. Junior skipper Jacob Rosenberg and crew Kathryn Booker and Camille White combined to win two races and placed as runner-up on two other occasions to earn fourth-place in the A Division with 90 points. Sophomore skipper Stephanie Houck, senior crew Cassie Obel and freshman crew Ashton Borcherding were eighth in the B division with 115 points, including three top-five finishes.

Next week, Stanford heads to Los Angeles for the PCCSC Women's championships, April 20-21. The Cardinal will also have sailors at the Admirals Cup in Kings Point, N.Y.
