Card Falls on Day Two

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 19 Stanford finished out the weekend of matches at home with loses against conference foes, No.1 UCLA and No. 12 California. 
 
Stanford (9-13) began the day with a match against UCLA. In their last matchup, UCLA swept Stanford. This time around, the Cardinal's No. 3 pairing, Maddie Dailey and Amelia Smith, were able to secure a single point for Stanford as the team fell 4-1. 
 
The Cardinal returned to the sand for its last match of the weekend, against its rival, the California Golden Bears. 
 
Morgan Hentz and Sunny Villapando, who play at the two, moved 9-2 as a pair after winning their against the Golden Bears. The duo fought back from a first set deficit, to put Stanford's first point on the board with a decisive 15-6 decision.
 
The No. 4 pairing, Shannon Richardson and Blake Sharp, were able to defeat the Golden Bears in straight-sets to secure Stanford's second point. At this point however, Cal had already clinched the match with a win at the four and five. 
 
Stanford fell, 3-2, to its rival for the second time this season. 
 
Up next, Stanford travels to Moraga, California on Thursday to take on the No. 18 Saint Mary's.
