STANFORD, Calif. - Nine Stanford softball players earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors, it was announced by the conference office on Thursday.
Pitchers Maddy Dwyer and Carolyn Lee were first-team selections, while Whitney Burks, Alyssa Horeczko, Hannah Howell and Kiana Pancino earned a spot on the second team. Teaghan Cowles, Montana Dixon and Kristina Inouye rounded out the selections with honorable mention nods.
With true freshmen ineligible to receive the award, Lee completed a perfect collegiate career with her third consecutive first-team honor. The native of San Ramon, Calif. carries a 3.94 GPA as a mechanical engineering major, is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a finalist for Academic All-American this year. She has also twice been named an Easton/NFCA NCAA Scholar-Athlete. Lee registered a 12-10 overall record with a 3.34 ERA while striking out 108 batters over 157.1 innings this year. A third-team All-Conference and All-Region pick, she will finish her career seventh in Stanford history with 333 career strikeouts and sixth in innings pitched with 558.2
Dwyer debuts on the first team after compiling a 3.68 GPA as an American studies major. The right-hander went 12-6 during her sophomore season, posting a 3.12 ERA over 22 appearances and 18 starts. Dwyer logged 92 innings in the circle, and amassed four complete games.
Burks garnered second-team honors for the second consecutive season after claiming a pair of honorable-mention selections in 2016 and 2017. The native of Fairfax Station, Va. connected for a team-high seven homers and 31 RBI in her final season on The Farm. A 2018 graduate with a degree in materials science and engineering, she carries a 3.45 GPA while pursuing a co-terminal master's in mechanical engineering.
Horeczko (3.54 GPA | science, technology and society) and Howell (3.49 GPA | art history) were both 2018 Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention selections a year ago, but claim second-team honors following their junior campaigns. Horeczko batted .300 with 13 runs scored and nine stolen bases to finish second on the team in the category. Howell hit .294 with 24 runs scored, six doubles and a triple over 45 games played.
Pancino earned a spot on the second team after pitching to a 7-0 record with a 2.49 ERA and eight saves. The right-hander, who carries a 3.60 GPA as a product design major, logged 50.2 innings over 29 appearances, including one start.
Cowles (3.27 GPA | bioengineering) and Inouye (3.45 GPA | computer science) both earned their second All-Academic selections, while Dixon (3.01 GPA | psychology) makes her first appearance on the All-Academic team in 2019. Cowles is a third-team All-Region pick and led the Cardinal in average (.374), runs scored (35), doubles (10), triples (5) and stolen bases (10). Inouye, named second-team All-Conference, was second on the team in average (.309), while sharing the team lead in RBI with 31. Dixon started every game behind the plate for Stanford as a junior, compiling a .285 average with 26 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, five homers and 27 RBI.
Stanford made its first NCAA regional appearance since 2013 this year, finishing the season with a 33-20 overall record.
