STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Carolyn Lee tossed a gem, and freshman Emily Schultz connected on a two-run homer in the second, as Stanford (32-13, 8-8 Pac-12) upended No. 2 UCLA (43-3, 17-2 Pac-12), 2-1, on Friday night to open a three-game Pac-12 series.
Lee surrendered just one run over the seven innings, working around five hits and three walks while striking out a pair. The complete game was Lee's sixth of the season, and she improves to 11-6 with the victory.

Stanford managed seven hits against a trio of Bruin hurlers in the game, but it was Schultz' two-run homer that followed a leadoff single from Emily Young in the second that give Lee all the support she would need. The round-tripper was Schultz' third of the season, and came off of starter Megan Faraimo, as the freshman dealt four innings and allowed six hits before dropping to 14-3. Holly Azevedo and Rachel Garcia also registered time in the circle, as Stanford got a look at each arm in the series opener.

Schultz and Young each finished with two hits, and both managed a double in the victory.
Lee, a native of San Ramon, Calif., allowed the only Bruin run of the game in the third inning on an RBI-single from Garcia.
The Bruins left seven runners on base, including leaving the bags loaded in the second, and two more in the third.
Stanford is now 3-3 against ranked opponents this year. The Card is also 24-3 when scoring first this year, and 19-1 when leading after five innings. Friday marks the second victory of the year over a top-10 opponent, as the Cardinal defeated then-No. 7 LSU on the road on February 21. Stanford's victory over a top-two opponent is the first since the Card knocked off No. 2 UCLA, 12-9, on May 2, 2014.
Stanford will look to secure the big series win on Saturday at 1 p.m.
