EAST LANSING, Michigan – No. 4 Stanford shot up the leaderboard on Tuesday with a 2-over 290 and now sits firmly in fourth heading into the final day of the East Lansing Regional. The day began with a seven-hour rain delay which pushed back the Cardinal tee time from 8 a.m. ET to 2:45 p.m. ET. The whole field began with a shotgun start. Stanford is now 12-over and will enter Wednesday, the final round of the Regional, seven shots clear of the cut line (top 6) to qualify for NCAA Championships in Fayetteville (May 17-22).
"Today was a long one with the weather and changing tee times," Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf Anne Walker said. "The team embraced the challenge though and played smart but aggressive. They fought until the end and picked up some late birdies that were key. Par five scoring will be imperative tomorrow given that the weather forecast is the worst yet. If we play those well, we should be in good shape. We are expecting a battle out there and hopefully it will go our way."
Freshman Aline Krauter had one of the best days in the entire regional, shooting a 1-under 71. She began the day on hole six and had two bogeys in the first four holes, but finished with three birdies and 11 pars over the last 14 holes to move into the top 20. Mika Liu started on hole four and totaled four birdies and five bogeys overall. She enters the final day at even-par and is tied for 10th.
Andrea Lee started the day on hole five and shot a 1-over 73. She had an eagle, two birdies and five bogeys on the day to go along with 10 pars. Albane Valenzuela also shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. She started her day on hole six and had pars on the first four holes before a bogey. She finished with two birdies and two bogeys over the final 13 holes.
The Cardinal will close out the NCAA East Lansing Regional on Wednesday with tee times beginning at 9:09 a.m. ET/6:09 a.m. PT.
