STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman right-handed pitcher Alex Williams has been named Freshman All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), as announced Monday.
Williams, a native of Castro Valley, California, carries a 2.56 earned-run average and 0.97 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched) in 14 appearances, including 10 starts. Williams has issued just eight walks with 43 strikeouts in 63.1 innings pitched, holding opposing hitters to a .226 batting average.
With Stanford's season on the line going into Sunday's must-win contest against Sacramento State (June 2), Williams delivered a complete-game performance, striking out a career high seven in the Cardinal's 12-3 win. Williams also earned Freshman All-America status from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Wednesday.
