2019: Season in Review

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford wrapped up the 2019 campaign at the IRA Championships, placing 10th overall as a team at the Lake Natoma course in Gold River, California.

Wrapping Up IRA's Stanford's varsity eight boat took home the fourth spot in the Petite Final with a time of 5:46.763. 

The Cardinal's third varsity eight participated in the Third Level Final, placing fifth with a time of 6:12.882. Cornell took the top spot in the race with a time of 6:04.426.

The second varsity eight also competed in the Third Level Final, placing sixth, clocking a time of 6:04.795. Wisconsin won the race using a time of 5:56.545.

Stanford finished the IRA Championships in 10th place overall, one spot higher than its 11th-place finish in 2018.

Pac-12 Championships RecapStanford placed third for the second straight year at the Pac-12 Championships, totaling 54 points behind champion Washington (72) and runner-up California (63). 
 
The Cardinal took third place in the respective finals of the varsity eight, second varsity eight and third varsity eight.

  

Wright Is Top Newcomer

Freshman James Wright was named the Pac-12's Men's Rowing Newcomer of the Year, highlighting Stanford's postseason honors.

The Cardinal also placed juniors Martin Amethier and Drew Taylor on the All-Pac-12 Team. Taylor received his second consecutive All-Pac-12 honor, while Amethier collected his first. 
 
Wright is the second Cardinal player in school history to earn the Newcomer of the Year honor, joining Austin Hack (2012). Wright earned his spot as the five-seat of Stanford's varsity eight boat and led the Cardinal to a third-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships. 

Prior to arriving on The Farm, Wright won the 2018 Youth National Championships in the single scull. Wright also competed in two Junior National Team quads in 2017 and 2018.

Pac-12 All-Academic Accolades

Headlined by 14 first-team selections, Stanford placed 21 student-athletes on the Pac-12 All-Academic squads.

It's the third straight year Stanford has been honored with at least 20 selections. 

The Cardinal has totaled 74 honorees over the past four seasons while placing at least 15 on the Pac-12 All-Academic Team in nine of the last 11 years.
