STANFORD, Calif. – Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men's Basketball, Jerod Haase, has elevated David Berkun to Director of Men's Basketball Operations and has hired Jerry Brown as Director of Player Development.
Berkun, who served as the Director of Player Development last season, has elevated his responsibilities each year with the program. As the Director of Operations, he oversees team travel, scheduling of program activities, facilities coordination, alumni development, and assists with scheduling. Berkun continues to serve as the program's liaison with the department's facilities, event management, operations and external relations teams. He also manages team and staff schedules and aides in the program's 6th Man initiatives.
After joining the program in the middle of the 2016-17 season as an intern, Berkun grew his responsibilities during his first full season on The Farm in 2017-18. He earned a promotion to Director of Player Development last season, becoming more involved with scouting, recruiting and analytics.
"David is a tremendous asset to our program," Haase said. "He joined our staff in the middle of our first season and has grown his responsibilities each year. His work ethic is off the charts. David has built strong relationships and continues to put our program in a position to succeed."
Brown comes to Stanford after serving as the Director of Scouting and Game Preparation at the University of Texas-El Paso last season. In his one season on staff with the Miners, Brown created detailed scouting reports and developed a robust analytical system to optimize performance.
"Jerry brings a strong background in scouting and analytics," Haase said. "He gives us an opportunity to fully analyze our program and adds an important piece to our scouting process. We are thrilled to have Jerry join the staff."
Prior to UTEP, Brown served as the video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons. He began his career in 2017 as the operations manager for Team Esface Basketball Academy in Redwood City, California.
Brown was a standout at Fresno State from 2011-13, earning All-Mountain West honors as a team captain for the Bulldogs. After earning a degree in communications from Fresno State in 2013, the Richmond, California, native completed his master's degree at Santa Clara in 2015.
The promotion of Berkun and addition of Brown complete the Cardinal staff for the 2019-20 season. Haase's coaching staff of Jeff Wulbrun, Adam Cohen and Jesse Pruitt have been in place since his arrival in 2016. Tom Orlich also enters his fourth season with the program, spearheading the program's community relations and alumni efforts. Esayes Habtemariam is in his third season as video assistant and Jack Frost begins his first season as program assistant.
