STANFORD, Calif. – Five-time defending Pac-12 champion Stanford was selected by the conference's coaches as the favorite to win a sixth straight league crown.
Stanford, which collected all five available first-place votes, totaled 25 points. Washington was second with 19 points and followed by Oregon State (17), which picked up the remaining first-place vote. California (13), UCLA (11) and San Diego State (5) rounded out the poll.
The nation's most successful collegiate men's soccer program over the last half-decade, Stanford has won three of the last four NCAA titles, five consecutive Pac-12 championships and posted a 77-14-18 (.789) overall record since 2014. Four of those returning starters earned spots on the 11-member Preseason All-Pac-12 squad in Tanner Beason, Logan Panchot, Zach Ryan and Andrew Thomas. Stanford's four selections led all schools.
Stanford's regular-season home opener is on Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. against No. 25 UC Irvine following a pair of free exhibitions against Saint Mary's (Aug. 20) and Pacific (Aug. 23). The Cardinal has posted a 44-6-10 (.817) record at home over the past five seasons with a goals against average of 0.53.
