CHARLESTON, S.C. – No. 1 Stanford put on an offensive show, Saturday, in a 25-19, 25-14, 26-24 sweep over Duke at TD Arena.
The Cardinal (2-0) hit .432 as a team and held the Blue Devils (0-2) to a .205 clip. Stanford registered 44 kills and committed just six attack errors in the match. Defense was also on display as Stanford racked up 12.0 blocks and 44 digs.
Senior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer led all players with 12 kills on .455 hitting. She was at .818 after two, recording 9 kills on 11 errorless swings.
Middle blocker Madeleine Gates added nine kills on 14 swings with no errors to hit .643. She also had a match-high seven blocks. Plummer and Gates were selected to the all-tournament team.
Senior setter Jenna Gray did it all, totaling 32 assists, seven digs, four kills and four blocks. Senior libero Morgan Hentz had a season-high 16 digs to go with five assists.
Senior opposite Audriana Fitzmorris chipped in with six kills on .400 hitting and five blocks. Fitzmorris now has 505 career blocks, moving her past Kerri Walsh and former teammate Merete Lutz to seventh on Stanford's career list.
Junior outside hitter Meghan McClure tallied three kills, seven digs and an ace. Freshman Kendall Kipp subbed in for McClure in all three sets and added six kills on .333 hitting and a block. Sophomore middle blocker Holly Campbell recorded three kills and four blocks for Stanford, while junior defensive specialist Kate Formico collected six digs and an ace.
Duke was led by outside hitter Ade Owokoniran's 11 kills, while Payton Schwantz added 10 kills and seven digs. Libero Mackenzie Cole finished with 11 digs to lead the Blue Devils.
Up next, Stanford is slated to play at No. 10 Florida on Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT. The match will be televised on the SEC Network.
