STANFORD, Calif. – Catarina Macario scored twice as No. 3 Stanford secured a 5-1 win over Penn on Friday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
Macario scored two second half goals to make it 5-0 after Beattie Goad, Carly Malatskey and Abby Greubel each netted one goal. Sam Hiatt finished with two assists and Goad added one helper while Sam Tran, Kiki Pickett and Madison Haley registered one assist apiece. Lauren Rood made a pair of saves to earn the win and Stanford's five-goal total matched how many goals the Quakers (0-1-0) conceded throughout the entire 2018 season.
"It's always great to play in front of such a great crowd," said the Knowles Family Director of Women's Soccer Paul Ratcliffe, who earned his 299th career win at Stanford in front of a crowd of 2,307. "We're pleased with the result butm, with the amount of chances we created, we'd like to finish a few more."

It took the Cardinal (3-0-0) 18 minutes to lift the lid on Penn's net with Goad opening the scoring. A deflected ball fell to Haley, whose deft touch teed up Goad for the first-time finish inside the far post. Less than 10 minutes later, Malatskey raced onto the end of Pickett's cross to tap in and make it 2-0.
After the break, Stanford added a third goal in the 54th minute when Greubel fired a low shot inside the far post from outside the box. Hiatt drilled a long free kick to the feet of Goad, who set up Greubel from 25 yards for her first goal of the season.
Macario took over in the closing stages, netting in the 79th and 83rd minutes for her second two-goal performance of the season in just three appearances. Tran released Macario through on net with a perfectly-weighted ball on the counter attack and, after dancing past her marker, the junior calmly finished inside the right post with her left foot. Moments later, Malatskey climbed highest on a Penn goal kick to head it through on net. Macario won the footrace against a Quaker defender and kept her composure to roll it into the net.
No. 3 Stanford continues nonconference play on Sunday when it plays host to San Jose State at 6 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks. It is Stanford's final home game until Oct. 3 when the Cardinal welcomes Washington State to The Farm.
