Shootout Successful

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 18 Stanford produced its second top-10 win of the season, edging No. 10 Harvard 2-1 in a penalty shootout on Thursday afternoon.

Kelsey Bing turned away all four shots in the shootout while Corinne Zanolli and Emma Alderton found the cage for Stanford, which has won four straight after back-to-back losses against top-15 opponents to open the season.

Despite coming up on the short end in shots (19-8) and penalty corners (5-3), the Cardinal was opportunistic offensively and received timely support from its defense.

Zanolli converted a penalty stroke one minute before halftime, producing her ninth goal of the season and 50th of her career to give Stanford a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinal (4-2, 0-0 America East) maintained that advantage until the game's final minute, when Casey Allen provided Harvard (1-2, 0-0 Ivy League) with the equalizer off a loose ball near the cage to force overtime.

Competing in its third penalty shootout in six games, Stanford made it official thanks to Bing, who held the Crimson scoreless on four attempts after making nine saves overall.

Stanford next faces New Hampshire on Friday at 3 p.m. PT.
