SoCal Champs

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Stanford started strong and never trailed Sunday afternoon to win the SoCal Invitational championship at the Spieker Aquatics Center on the campus of UCLA.

The No. 3 Cardinal (10-1) handed the No. 2 Bruins (8-1) their first loss of the season.

Stanford moved out to an early 3-1 lead after goals from Bennett Williams, Tyler Abramson and Ben Hallock, but UCLA answered and trailed 3-2 after the first quarter.

A late goal by Hallock provided the Cardinal with a 7-3 cushion at intermission.

The Bruins clawed back and trailed 10-8 entering the final quarter. But Stanford received goals from Dylan Woodhead and Abramson to earn some comfort room and never looked back.

Williamson led the Cardinal with four goals, one steal and two exclusions. Williams added three goals and three exclusions, while Hallock scored two goals and dished one assist.

Andrew Chun made nine saves.

Stanford is back in action next Sunday when it travels to Pacific for a 1 p.m. game.
