STANFORD, Calif. - Michelle Lahrkamp and Sammy Pickell won the A division from the Jen Harris Women's Showcase Finals and Stanford posted top three finishes in two other events as part of a busy weekend of sailing for the Cardinal.
Competing across three divisions at the Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth, Stanford took second overall behind a second-place finish in the C division, a fourth-place finish in B division and a sixth-place finish in A division. Skipper Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo and crew Victoria Thompson claimed runner-up honors in C division, winning their final three races overall to finish one point behind Yale. Skipper Wiley Rogers and crew Taylor Kirkpatrick teamed in B division, claiming a trio of top three finishes, including posting a victory in the final race, to finish fourth in the division. Sailing in A division, skipper Jack Parkin and crew Abigail Tindall came in just two points out of third place after winning two of the five races overall. Despite a tough start that saw the Cardinal sitting 16th after one race, the pair rebounded nicely to finish sixth overall in the standings. Yale, which went 2-3-1 in divisions A, B and C, respectively, won the Captain Hurst Bowl with a team score of 64.
While UC Santa Barbara ran away with the victory at the Stoney Burke Varsity regatta in Berkeley, Calif., Stanford battled USC close for second before eventually finishing just one point behind the Trojans for third in the final standings. Skipper John Kirkpatrick and crew Patricia Gerli placed second overall in A division, claiming six top four finishes, including one second-place finish. Sailing in B division, skipper Justin Lim and crew Laurel Foster took fourth overall in the division after posting five top four finishes. The duo finished second in the seventh leg of racing, and closed the regatta with a pair of top four finishes.
Lahrkamp and Pickell won a pair of races in A division at the Jen Harris Women's Showcase Finals hosted by Navy to guide the Cardinal to a sixth-place team finish overall. The pair managed four top three finishes over 10 races in all. Skippers Hallie Schiffman (1-6) and AnaClare Sole (7-10) teamed with crew Camille White in B division at the showcase, as the Cardinal managed a pair of seventh-place finishes to highlight competition in that section.
