LOUISVILLE, Ky. - No. 16 Stanford dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 5 Louisville on Tuesday morning to close out a three-game, four-day road swing.
The Cardinal (9-6, 1-0 America East) came away with two wins on the trip, knocking off No. 18 Ohio State 3-1 on Sunday after blanking Ball State 5-0 on Saturday.
Facing one of the nation's top defenses on Tuesday, Stanford struggled offensively and produced only four shots, two coming off the stick of Jessica Welch.
Louisville (11-2, 2-2 ACC) opened the scoring in the seventh minute and built a 2-0 lead at halftime, holding a 12-0 shot advantage through two quarters.
The second half was more evenly-played but one of Bethany Russ' game-high eight shots found the cage in the 48th minute to seal the win.
Kelsey Bing kept the Cardinal within striking distance by making 12 saves, two shy of her career high.
Stanford shifts its attention to conference play for the final three games, beginning with Sunday's matchup at UC Davis.
