STANFORD, Calif. – Sailing at the Showcase Finals hosted by Connecticut College over the weekend, Stanford placed second of 18 teams, headlined by a first-place finish in A division from skipper Jack Parkin and crew Sammy Pickell and Taylor Kirkpatrick.
Boston University took top honors at what is considered a precursor to the spring Coed National Championship, finishing with a combined 103 points to best Stanford at 117.
Parkin, Pickell and Kirkpatrick won A division with 41 points, and finished in the top four in four of the final five legs – including posting one victory and a pair of second-place finishes. Parkin and Pickell competed together in races 1-5, while Kirkpatrick closed the slate in races 6-9.
Skipper Wiley Rogers and Kirkpatrick opened competition in B division, posting one victory and a pair of top-three finishes over the first six races. Skipper Jacob Rosenberg and Pickell took the final three races in B division, earning a second-place finish in the seventh leg to help the Cardinal edge College of Charleston for sixth overall in the division.
Competing at the Yale Women's Interconference regatta in New Haven, Conn., Stanford's quartet of Michelle Lahrkamp, Abigail Tindall, Christina Sakellaris and Patricia Gerli combined to finish sixth overall. Skipper Lahrkamp and crew Tindall took second in A division after winning a pair of races and claiming six top-four finishes over 13 races. A seventh-place finish in B division from skipper Sakellaris and crew Gerli was highlighted by consecutive top-three finishes in races five and six.
Yale won the regatta with a 154 total points, followed by Brown, Dartmouth, Charleston, Cornell and the Cardinal.
Next up for the Cardinal is the Women's Fall Pacific Coast Championship in San Luis Obispo, Calif., Oct. 26-27.
