ITA Northwest Regional Championships Singles/Doubles Draws
STANFORD, Calif. - For the second consecutive season, Stanford swept both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships.
Hosting the event at Taube Family Tennis Stadium for the 13th straight year, the Cardinal made quick work of both matches on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Michaela Gordon won the third tournament title of her career, defeating Maria Kozyreva of Saint Mary's 6-2, 7-5. Gordon never dropped a set in tournament play and did not surrender more than three games in any set until Monday's 6-4, 7-5 victory over California's Valentina Ivanov in the semifinals.
Stanford has produced the tournament singles champion in nine of the last 10 years: Michaela Gordon (2019, 2018, 2017), Taylor Davidson (2015), Carol Zhao (2014), Kristie Ahn (2013, 2010), Hardebeck (2012) and Nicole Gibbs (2011).
Pairing together for the first time, senior Emily Arbuthnott and freshman Angelica Blake claimed the doubles crown, knocking off Washington's Sedona Gallagher and Katarina Kopcalic 6-4, 6-2. It's the third career doubles title for Arbuthnott and first for Blake, who captured the Saint Mary's Invitational singles crown two weeks ago in her debut.
Stanford concludes the fall season Nov. 7-10 with an appearance at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, with Gordon, Arbuthnott and Blake automatically qualifying from today's results. The Cardinal could be represented with multiple at-large selections when the draw is announced. Stanford will also compete in the San Diego State Classic that same weekend.
In addition to Stanford, the ITA's Northwest Region schools are comprised of the following: California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle and UC Davis.
