Captains Named

Stanford Men's Golf seniors Henry Shimp and David Snyder were named co-captains for the remainder of the 2019-20 season on Thursday.

"Henry and David have grown into team leaders for us during their time at Stanford," The Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray said on Thursday. "They both have different approaches, but in combination they will be great guideposts for a fairly young team in terms of experience and competition. Team leadership is a huge part of our success and both of these guys are up to the task at hand."

Shimp, a science, technology and society major from Charlotte, N.C., helped the Cardinal to the 2019 National Championship as a junior. He was Pac-12 All-Academic first team and a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America scholar, while playing eight events with a scoring average of 71.77. So far this year, Shimp has helped the Cardinal to strong finishes at both the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational and The Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invite.

Snyder, a history major from McAllen, Texas, has a 71.00 scoring average through six rounds this season, finishing tied for fourth at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational to begin the season. He was named All-Pac-12 second team last year in addition to being All-Academic second team and a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America scholar. He played in seven events last season with a 71.92 scoring average while helping Stanford take home the title.

The Cardinal wrap up their fall schedule next week with the Cypress Point Classic. Joining the Cardinal in the field will be Duke, Georgia Tech, UCLA, USC, Illinois, Cal and Alabama.
