History in the Making

BOULDER, Colo. – No. 2 Stanford solidified its position atop the Pac-12 standings with a 4-0 win over Colorado on Thursday afternoon at Prentup Field.

Catarina Macario had a hand in each of Stanford's first two goals and Katie Meyer made one save to earn the shutout – the Cardinal (14-1-0, 7-0-0 Pac-12) has not allowed a goal in 608:42 minutes of play, a streak that dates to Sept. 28. Madison Haley, Beattie Goad and Jojo Harber also scored as Stanford outshot the Buffaloes (10-5-1, 2-4-1), 26-7, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal and a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Stanford has won its last nine matches since its only loss of the season at Pepperdine (Sept. 13). Since then, Stanford owns a 29-4 goal difference, including a 28-4 goal difference in Pac-12 play. The Cardinal is undefeated in its last 37 Pac-12 games, a streak that dates to Oct. 6, 2016. During the streak, Stanford is outscoring its opponents, 103-14.

Macario's goal, her NCAA-leading eighth game winner of the season, was the lone strike in the first half. Macario won a penalty kick, drawing a foul from goalkeeper Jalen Tompkins, and buried the ensuing spot kick for her 50th career goal, joining Christen Press (71), Sarah Rafanelli (59), Kelley O'Hara (57), Lindsay Taylor (53) and Julie Foudy (52) as the only players in program history with 50 or more career goals.

Macario had a golden opportunity to double her tally in the 54th minute but, 12 minutes later, she set up Haley's seventh goal of the season. Macario collected the ball in her own half before embarking on a 50-yard run up the left wing. She drew multiple defenders to herself and played a perfect ball into the path of Haley, who confidently finished to make it 2-0.

Stanford added a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes to seal the result. Goad finished a move in the 77th minute, redirecting Sierra Enge's cross inside the near post. In the 88th minute, Carly Malatskey's cross found the head of Harber, who placed it perfectly inside the top corner to give Stanford four or more goals for the eighth time this season.
