SAN FRANCISCO – Stanford was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 when the conference announced the results of the preseason coaches' poll on Monday morning at the league's annual Media Day in San Francisco.
The Cardinal totaled 111 points and one first-place vote. Oregon was the leading vote getter, receiving 11 first-place votes and collecting 121 points. Oregon State was third (99 points), UCLA fourth (93 points) and Arizona State (77 points) fifth while Arizona (73 points) closed out the top half of the poll in sixth.
It's the fifth consecutive season Stanford has come in second in the preseason poll. The Cardinal had topped the rankings for 15 consecutive years beginning in 2000-01.
In preseason national rankings released on NCAA.com last week, the Cardinal was No. 3 behind No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Baylor. The Pac-12 boasted four of the country's top 10 with Oregon State checking in at No. 6 and UCLA at No. 10. Stanford will host each of those conference schools this season as part of a loaded home schedule that also includes Ohio State and Tennessee.
Utah (58 points), USC (47 points), Washington (35 points), Washington State (34 points), Cal (28 points) and Colorado (16 points) rounded out the rest of the poll.
