All-Pac-12 Selections Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. – Eight Cardinal were named All-Pac-12, including Midfielder of the Year Catarina Macario and Defender of the Year Naomi Girma, as announced Wednesday by the conference.

Macario, the national leader in virtually every category and reigning Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy recipient, was the Pac-12 Forward of the Year during her freshman and sophomore seasons before playing a majority of the 2019 as a midfielder. Macario leads the NCAA in goals (23) and assists (18), recently setting the single-season and all-time program records for assists. Macario is the third consecutive Stanford player to win Midfielder of the Year honors – Andi Sullivan won the award in 2017 and Jordan DiBiasi took the honors in 2018.

Girma is one of three Cardinal to start all 19 regular-season games, playing nearly every minute of the season in central defense. With two goals and one assist to her name, Girma helped Stanford earn shutouts in nine of its 11 conference matches, including a shutout streak of 832:03 minutes from Sept. 28 – Nov. 3. Girma is the third consecutive Cardinal to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors after Tierna Davidson (2017) and Alana Cook (2018) each won the award.

Joining Macario and Girma on the first team were Madison Haley and Kiki Pickett. Haley ranks third in the Pac-12 in both points (30) and assists (10) and is one of two players in the Pac-12 to register at least 10 goals and 10 assists (Macario). Pickett has started all 19 games at right back this season with a career-high five assists to her name.

Sophia Smith, who ties for second on the team in goals (10), was Stanford's lone representative on the All-Pac-12 second team.

Sam Hiatt and Maya Doms were named to the All-Pac-12 third team with Kennedy Wesley joining Doms on the All-Freshman team.

No. 1 Stanford opens the NCAA Tournament on Friday when it plays host to Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live at GoStanford.com.
