PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 4 Stanford wrapped up its fall schedule with a 5-4 victory at No. 7 Penn, closing out its opening weekend on the East Coast.
Sophomore Elena Wagenmans provided the clinching point in the victory over Penn while freshman Cassandra Ong swept her three matches on the weekend.
"It was a great bonding weekend for the team and good experience for the first matches of the year," said head coach Mark Talbott. "I was struck by the fact that I believe there are seven teams (Penn, Drexel, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Trinity and ourselves) that are extremely close and can win on any given day. Harvard is clearly the favorite to repeat as champions but there has never been such parody in college squash within the top eight teams. It will make for some exciting close matches down the road."
Stanford returns to action on Jan. 8, hosting Tufts in its only home match of the season.
