Clark, O'Keeffe Receive Honors

2019 Pac 12 XC honors Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. -- First-year coach J.J. Clark and conference champion Fiona O'Keeffe were honored with Pac-12 cross country season awards on Tuesday.

Clark was named Women's Coach of the Year and O'Keeffe was the Women's Athlete of the Year. In addition, five Cardinal – three women and two men – were named to the All-Pac-12 first team by virtue of their top-seven conference finishes on Friday at the championship meet in Monmouth, Oregon.

Clark, Stanford's Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field, coached the Cardinal women to their first conference team title since 2010. Stanford's point total of 27 was the lowest of any women's team in the conference since 2008 and the Cardinal's 1-2-3 finish hadn't happened in program history since 2006.

O'Keeffe, a senior earth systems major, took control early in the race and ran mostly by herself despite a strong wind. She completed the 6-kilometer (3.73-mile) Ash Creek Preserve course in 19:32.7.

As O'Keeffe closed in on the finish, Ella Donaghu and Jessica Lawson moved into second and third to complete a glorious day for the Cardinal. Donaghu and Lawson joined O'Keeffe as first-team all-conference selections.

For the men, Alex Ostberg earned his third Pac-12 top-four finish by placing fourth. The Stanford men placed third with help from Thomas Ratcliffe, who placed sixth over the 8K (4.97-mile) course.
