TEMPE, Ariz. – Madeleine Gates tied her season-high with 13 kills to lead No. 5 Stanford to a 25-16, 25-23, 25-10 win over Arizona State, Thursday, at Desert Financial Arena.
 
Stanford (17-4, 11-2 Pac-12) overpowered Arizona State (13-11, 5-8 Pac-12), hitting .349 while holding the Sun Devils to a .078 clip. The Cardinal doubled-up ASU in kills, 48-24, and finished with 52 digs and 8.0 blocks.
 
Gates's 13 kills came on a .323 hitting percentage and the senior tallied a match-high seven blocks. Junior Meghan McClure finished one kill shy of a double-double with a match-best 15 digs.
 
Senior Audriana Fitzmorris and freshman Natalie Berty also registered nine kills each as Fitzmorris hit .318 and Berty was at a .263. Sophomore Holly Campbell had six kills on eight errorless swings to hit .750.
 
Senior setter Jenna Gray recorded her team-best eighth double-double of the season with 39 assists and 10 digs. Senior libero Morgan Hentz had 12 digs, five assists and two aces, while junior defensive specialist Kate Formico finished with eight digs.
 
After missing 10 matches due to injury, senior Kathryn Plummer came off the bench as a serving specialist in each of the three sets.
 
Arizona State was led by Iman Isanovic and Andrea Mitrovic, who each had six kills. Libero Courtney Leffel had 13 digs to lead the Devils.
 
Stanford remains in first place in the Pac-12 Conference standings with seven regular season matches remaining.
 
Up next, Stanford heads down to Tucson to face Arizona on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT from the McKale Center.
