AUSTIN – Abrahm DeVine (3:36.41) successfully defended his 400-yard individual medley national championship on Friday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Aquatic Center.
DeVine becomes a four-time All-American in the event after earning the top seed in the A-final with 3:38.53 in the preliminary round. It is the 148th national championship in program history – DeVine is the first Cardinal swimmer since Tom Wilkens (1997-98) to win back-to-back titles in the 400 IM.

Alex Liang (3:42.87) also earned All-America honors in the event, placing fourth in the B-final for 12th place, overall. Liang swam a personal-best 3:42.19 in prelims, the third-fastest time in program history.
Hank Poppe picked up his first career All-America honor in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning the B-final with a time of 51.93 – Poppe shaved time off his personal-best time in preliminaries (52.08) to swim the second-fastest time in program history for his first career All-America honor.
Freshman Noah Vigran (372.10) made it four individual All-America honors on the day for Stanford, placing sixth in the 3-meter springboard A-final. Vigran qualified in fifth place, posting 381.00 in the preliminary round.
Stanford moves up to 15th place with one day to go. The NCAA Championships wrap up on Saturday, starting with preliminaries at 8 a.m. PT and the finals session at 4 p.m. Events include the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard butterfly, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Platform diving and the 1,650-yard freestyle, which will take place prior to the 4 p.m. finals session. Cardinal Notes
- Matt Anderson (52.49) placed 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke while Brennan Pastorek (52.84) placed 27th.
