Card Sweeps George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Setter Paul Bischoff earned AVCA Showcase Most Valuable Player honors, leading No. 7 Stanford to a 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 win over George Mason, Saturday, at the Recreation Athletic Complex.

Bischoff controlled the offense with 41 assists, guiding the Cardinal (4-1) to a .333 attack percentage as a team. Stanford held George Mason (1-2) to a .077 hitting percentage as a team and just a 56 percent sideout rate for the match.

Three Cardinal tallied double-digit kills, led by senior Eric Beatty's 12. The outside hitter hit .364 and recorded three digs, two blocks and an ace. Freshman outside hitter Will Rottman hit .500 with 10 kills on 18 swings with just on error, while junior opposite Jaylen Jasper also posted 10 kills to go with a match-high eight digs.

Senior middle blocker Stephen Moye hit .571 (9-1-14) and added three blocks and two aces. Moye's hitting percentage is the highest by a Cardinal this season (minimum 10 attempts). Junior middle blocker Kyler Presho added three kills, three blocks and his first ace of the season.

Redshirt freshman libero Justin Lui finished with seven digs, averaging 2.17 digs per set on the week.

Bischoff was joined on the AVCA Showcase All-Tournament Team by Beatty, Jasper and Moye. NJIT's Alvaro Gimeno and George Mason's Sam Greenslade rounded out the team.

George Mason, who was playing without the likes of senior opposite Hayden Wagner, had four players notch five kills. Richie Hoff led the way with six, but hit -.077.

Stanford remains on the road next week, traveling to No. 8 UC Irvine on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Bren Events Center.
