STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford produced a successful performance in its season opener, defeating Wheaton (Mass.) 102-71 this past weekend at Avery Aquatic Center.
Hosting the first of two home meets this season, the Cardinal won all events in which it competed over the two-day event. Jacklyn Luu, who placed second at the 2019 Collegiate Nationals, was Stanford's lone entrant in the solo competition and also posted the best mark in the Figures A competition.
"I'm proud of our performances this weekend," said head coach Megan Azebu. "Being so early in the season, we know that the real work has yet to come, on our road to Collegiate Nationals in Mesa, Arizona. This was a great opportunity for our freshmen to gain experience in our home pool, and we look forward to competing against Wheaton again later this month in Boston."
In 2019, the Cardinal gained experience by producing an impressive runner-up finish to defending national champion Ohio State at the National Collegiate Championships. The Cardinal placed second in all four routine finals.
