STANFORD, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford shook off a hard-fought doubles point to blank Washington State 4-0 on Sunday afternoon, making it a clean sweep on ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Stanford (2-0) punched its ticket to next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 7-10 in Chicago, Illinois.
The Cardinal, which defeated USF 4-0 yesterday, gained an early 1-0 advantage after capturing a tight doubles point. With the first two courts split, the No. 3 duo of Sara Choy and Emma Higuchi hung on for a 6-4 victory.
Angelica Blake followed with her first collegiate dual match victory, winning easily 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
Choy then delivered a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the No. 5 spot, putting Stanford on the brink of clinching.
Emily Arbuthnott made it official, prevailing 6-4, 6-2 on court two.
Participating in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the second straight season after a seven-year hiatus, Stanford suffered its only loss of the 2019 campaign in the semifinals against Georgia.
Stanford returns to action Thursday, Jan. 30, hosting Hawai'i at 1:30 p.m.
