ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Ashlan Best produced a runner-up finish in the 200, highlighting Stanford's opening day of competition at the Don Kirby Invitational.

Best clocked in at 23.62, slightly behind the pace set by Arizona State's Josephine Anokye at 23.57.

Max McKhann also contributed a top-10 finish, finishing ninth in the 35-pound weight throw with a mark of 18.62m.

Laurel Wong nearly secured a top-10 finish in the pole vault, finishing with the third-best mark in the event at 3.86m.

Meanwhile, football All-American cornerback Paulson Adebo made his Cardinal track and field debut, checking in with a time of 51.44 in the 400.

This weekend's meet allows Stanford to take advantage of the 5,300-foot altitude at the Albuquerque Convention Center, which is the host site of next month's NCAA Championships.

The Cardinal returns to action tomorrow while its distance runners are set to compete at the Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor (307-meter flat track) in Seattle.
