Cardinal Falls at Grand Canyon

PHOENIX – Junior Jaylen Jasper registered a double-double, but No. 9 Stanford dropped a 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 decision to Grand Canyon, Saturday, at Antelope Gymnasium.

Stanford (4-4, 0-1 MPSF) played its third straight match without starting setter Paul Bischoff. Grand Canyon (8-2, 1-0 MPSF) earned its first win program history over the Cardinal.

Jasper totaled a team-high 12 kills and 11 digs for his second double-double of the season. He also tallied two aces and finished with a .333 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter Will Rottman had nine kills on .350 hitting and four digs.

Stanford hit .274 as a team, but allowed Grand Canyon to register a .429 attack percentage. The Lopes kept the Cardinal out of system with its serve, finishing with seven aces.

Redshirt freshman Justin Lui started his second consecutive match at setter, finishing with a career-high 29 assists and four digs.

Senior Eric Beatty had five kills in the first set and a half, but was issued a red card midway through the second. Junior Leo Henken replaced Beatty and finished with three kills, four digs and a block.

Grand Canyon was led by outside hitter Camden Gianni, who had 13 kills on .481 hitting and three aces. Christian Janke added 12 kills on a .476 attack percentage and three aces.

Stanford returns home next week to play host to No. 10 Pepperdine on Thursday and No. 8 UCLA on Saturday.
