Signature Nonconference Win

AUSTIN, Texas - No. 12 Stanford collected a marquee nonconference win on Saturday afternoon, knocking off No. 3 Texas 4-3 to complete an important road sweep.

After blanking TCU 4-0 on Friday afternoon, Stanford (8-1, 0-0 Pac-12) defeated its third ranked opponent of the season and produced its first true road win.

Saturday's match featured two teams reversing direction in the first edition of this week's computerized rankings. Stanford dropped nine spots from No. 3 to No. 12 while Texas enjoyed a four-spot jump from No. 7 to No. 3.

The Cardinal took a 1-0 lead, claiming the doubles point after Michaela Gordon and Niluka Madurawe won back-to-back games to secure a 7-5 victory on court two.

Sara Choy was first off court with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 before Texas picked up its first point at the top spot of the lineup.

Angelica Blake's 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position gave Stanford a 3-1 lead.

Emma Higuchi then provided the clincher with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court six.

Stanford returns to action on Tuesday, March 3, hosting Saint Mary's at 3 p.m.
