STANFORD, Calif. – No. 20 Stanford defeated Utah 5-0 on Sunday morning before falling to No. 5 Hawai'i 4-1 in the afternoon game.
Stanford's win against Utah was the first 5-0 sweep the Cardinal has had this season.
Stanford improved against Hawai'i after falling to the Rainbow Wahine last weekend 5-0 in the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic. In today's game, Tori Ashkinos and Maddi Kriz battled back after losing the first set 15-21 to win the next two sets (21-19, 15-12) and win their match.
"The team learned a ton this weekend. We played a really good opponent in Hawai'i late today, especially as the wind picked up. Hawai'i played really well in the wind and brought a lot of service pressure. We have a lot to take forward into next weekend where we will probably have some windy environments at Ocean Park and UCLA. We have had a lot of good growth from opening weekend until now and a lot to take forward".
Stanford is back in action on Friday when it faces USC and University of Washington in Los Angeles.
