Cardinal Drops Finale

Box Score

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford dropped the final contest of its four-game series against Kansas State, falling 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Sunken Diamond.

The Cardinal (5-11) entered this weekend's final nonconference weekend series with momentum, having won three in a row following Tuesday's 5-4 upset of No. 16 Michigan.

However, Kansas State (9-6) took three of four, with Stanford's only victory coming in the form of a 7-5 win during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

On Sunday, the Wildcats took advantage of opportunistic offense despite only six hits and a quality start from Jordan Wicks, who allowed five hits and one run in seven innings while striking out four without a walk.

Making his second starting appearance of the weekend, Fleischli looked sharp again with 2.2 hitless innings and one strikeout while throwing 18 of his 27 pitches for strikes.

After Dylan Phillips' two-run homer in the fourth, Kansas State increased its lead to 3-0 in the sixth on an RBI groundout.

Stanford answered in the home half, when Austin Kretzschmar doubled with two outs and scored on Carson Greene's RBI single to right field.

The Wildcats tacked on three insurance runs in the late innings to put the game out of reach.

Stanford will be idle until Saturday, March 21, opening Pac-12 play against California in the first of a three-game series.
