Pac-12 Streak Snapped

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 3 UCLA made an early statement in the Pac-12 race, defeating No. 9 Stanford 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford (10-2, 1-1 Pac-12) also had its 38-match conference winning streak snapped, losing to a Pac-12 opponent in the regular season for the first time since falling 4-3 at Arizona State back on March 5, 2016.

Both of Stanford's losses have come against UCLA (12-1, 2-0 Pac-12), which extended its winning streak to five. The Bruins blanked the Cardinal 4-0 on Feb. 9 in the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

UCLA opened the match by controlling the doubles point, surrendering only one game combined after victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots.

Angelica Blake provided Stanford's only singles win, tying the match at 1-1 following a 6-0, 6-4 upset of No. 17 Jada Hart on court three.

The Bruins then ripped off three straight victories, with Annette Goulak clinching the match on court five despite Michaela Gordon and Emma Higuchi forcing third sets to make it interesting.

Stanford has now won 68 of its last 72 matches at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal returns to action on Friday, March 13, hosting Oregon at 1:30 p.m.
