Cardinal Adds Two

STANFORD, Calif. – Hunter Dickey and Ethan Hill have signed with the Cardinal to continue their collegiate careers at Stanford, head coach John Kosty announced today.

Dickey is a 6-4 opposite/setter who has played the last two seasons at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California, where he captained his team in 2020. He was named to the Orange Empire Conference's "Nevco Character Champion Team".

"Hunter is an athletic, multi-positional player that will give us additional great options at the setter and opposite positions," said Kosty. "He has been involved with three programs that have a long and established history of success. One of his great qualities is his ability to lead and build strong relationships. Hunter is a young man with big dreams and is a perfect fit for our team and our university as a whole. We are ecstatic to have him join our Stanford family."

Dickey played his prep career at Huntington Beach High School and also competed for Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, where he earned a silver medal at the 2018 U.S. Junior National Championships 18 Open Division. In high school, he was a three-time Sunset League All-Academic Team selection and a three-time Huntington Beach High School Scholar Athlete Award recipient. A three-sport athlete, he earned the Al Reboin Award in 2015, also competing in football and basketball.

Hill, a 6-7 middle blocker from San Clemente, spent the 2019-20 season at UCLA. A member of the 2020 U.S. Junior Youth National Training Team, he was a starter on the 2018 and 2019 U.S. Boys Youth National Team.

"We first pursued Ethan during his high school years when he was one of the top recruits in his class. I am thrilled that we have a second chance with him as those don't come around very often," explained Kosty. "An outstanding middle-blocker who has been part of every youth and junior national team in his age group, Ethan has continually demonstrated the elite ability needed to standout. He joins our already outstanding group of young middles ready to battle for the starters spot. With Ethan, we add another wonderful student-athlete that will thrive in both our academic and athletic communities."

A 2019 graduate of St. Margaret's Episcopal School, Hill was a two-time All-CIF Southern Section First Team selection and a three-time All-Academy League First Team honoree, including MVP in 2018. Also a member of Balboa Bay Volleyball Club, Hill was a VolleyballMag.com Fab 50 selection in 2019 and a three-time U.S. Junior National Championships All-Tournament pick. He helped his club earn a gold medal in the 16 Open Division in 2017 and a silver medal in the 18 Open Division in 2019.

Dickey and Hill join Kupono Browne (Honolulu, Hawaii), Chris Kelly (El Segundo, Calif.), Aidan Peters (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Luke Turner (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) as new roster additions for the fall.
