Seven Named to National Team

STANFORD, Calif. – Seven current or former Stanford student-athletes were named to the 2020-21 U.S. Women's National Team as announced by USA Swimming on Wednesday.

Senior Brooke Forde, incoming freshmen Lillie Nordmann and Regan Smith, along with former Cardinal Katie Drabot, Ella Eastin, Katie Ledecky and Simone Manuel, will represent Stanford on the national stage.

Following the disruption of the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, USA Swimming made the decision to keep every returning athlete from the most recent U.S. National Team roster and add athletes that achieved a performance faster than the sixth-place time on the 2019-20 roster before March 17, 2020.

Several athletes already on the 2019-20 roster qualified in new events, including Smith, whose 57.34 swim in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2020 TYR Pro Swim Series at Des Moines earned her a spot in the event. Smith had previously qualified in the 100 backstroke, 200 back and 200 fly, bringing her total to four events.

Ledecky also qualified in four events (200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 1,500 free), Manuel qualified in three events (50 free, 100 free, 200 free) and Drabot (200 fly), Eastin (200 IM), Forde (400 IM) and Nordmann (200 fly) qualified in one event each.

Athletes will be preparing for both the rescheduled U.S. Olympic Team Trials and the Olympic Games in Tokyo next summer. Paul A. Violich Director of Women's Swimming Greg Meehan will serve as the Olympic Women's Swimming Head Coach.
