Get to Know Natalie Berty

What's your favorite way to spend a day off?Going on an adventure with the foxy 5 (the sophomore class).

What surprised you the most about being a student-athlete at Stanford? The variety of classes and the flexibility to take whichever classes that one wants surprised me the most.

Do you have any pet peeves?I cannot think of any pet peeves, however I have a few irrational fears, including wet paper, communal showers, and loose hair.

If you weren't playing volleyball at Stanford, what sport would you want to play?Well, I would play beach volleyball (and I do) because I grew up in southern California and it's what I grew up playing on the weekends with friends. It is just such a different vibe than indoor volleyball, very relaxing and pleasant to be by the ocean.

Do you have any prematch rituals? If so, what are they? While I don't have any rituals, I do have two things that I will always wear, gold sparkly eyeshadow and a red bow.

Outside of volleyball, what's something you're passionate about and why?I am really passionate about challenging myself whether its learning German, taking a variety of classes that interest me, or painting.

Why did you choose to attend Stanford?I chose Stanford because it offers the best academics alongside the most competitive athletics. I may have had a little help learning about the university from Gabriella in High School Musical 3 and from the stories of my parents. They both had wished to go here, but didn't get in, so of course the competitive side of me wanted to be the one who got in and went to Stanford.
