STANFORD, Calif. – Sixteen Stanford varsity athletic programs received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA on Tuesday.

The 16 teams (10 men, six women) posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all programs in their respective sports.

Stanford's 16 programs receiving Public Recognition Awards include men's basketball, women's basketball, beach volleyball, men's cross country, men's fencing, field hockey, football, men's golf, women's golf, men's soccer, softball, men's tennis, men's track and field, men's water polo, women's water polo, and wrestling.

Stanford's 16 was No. 1 nationally among Power 5 schools, trailed most closely by Northwestern's 14 and Notre Dame's 13. The closest to the Cardinal in the Pac-12 was Arizona State's 12.

In football, Stanford was among only 13 in the FBS, 10 in the Power Five, and three in the Pac-12 to earn recognition. In women's basketball, Stanford was among only two in the Pac-12 and eight among the Power Five, and 51 overall. In men's basketball, Stanford was among three in the conference, 13 in the Power Five, and 51 overall.

Two of Stanford's teams to earn NCAA recognition for 2018-19 – men's golf and women's water polo – also were national champions. Only 10 national championship teams earned recognition and Stanford was the only school to have more than one.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19 academic years.
