STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford Athletics is celebrating National Voter Registration Day by teaming up with StanfordVotes to promote voter registration for all eligible student-athletes and staff prior to Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Led by the department's recently-formed committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), commitment to registration and voting is the first of several initiatives focused around inclusion and belonging.
Beyond just registration, Stanford Athletics is encouraging all of its student-athletes, coaches and staff to vote on Nov. 3, as there will be no required student athletic activities that day.
Several Cardinal programs have already reached the 100-percent voter registration mark, and the department is implementing a system to track and celebrate the progress of all varsity teams.
Stanford's participation in National Voter Registration Day also aligns with the Pac-12's collective commitment among all member athletics programs to facilitate registration and acquisition of mail-in ballots.
StanfordVotes is a non-partisan, university-wide, student-run organization designed to increase voter turnout among Stanford students. StanfordVotes is run through the Stanford in Government (SIG) Civic Engagement Branch in collaboration with the Haas Center for Public Service, and has partnerships with the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) and the President's Office.
