STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's swimming and diving will send a contingent of 10 swimmers to the NCAA championships, the organization announced on Wednesday. The Cardinal will be represented in 20 events and three eligible relay teams.
The NCAA championships will be held March 20-24, in Greensboro, N.C.
Senior Alex Liang and freshman Preston Forst qualified for the national championship in three events. Liang will compete in the 200 IM, 400 IM and the 200 fly. He is seeking his third-straight All-America honor in the 400 IM, and will be joined in the 200 fly by Forst. The freshman will also compete in the 200 free and 400 free.
Three other seniors will be joining Liang in Greensboro. Grant Shoults will compete in the 500 free and 1650 free as he looks to increase on his nine-career All-America honors. The redshirt senior is a three-time All-American in both events.
True Sweetser will also compete in the 1650 free, while Johannes Calloni will compete in the 200 back.
Daniel Roy was selected for the national championships in both the 100 breast and 200 breast, and he is seeking his third All-America honor in the 200 breast. The junior is ranked third in the event with a time of 1:51.07 – a school-record mark.
The Cardinal will send three freshman to the national championships alongside Forst. Jonathan Affeld (100 fly, 200 IM), Ethan Hu (100 fly, 200 fly), Luke Maurer (100 free, 200 free), as well as Shane Blinkman (200 IM, 200 back) will make their first appearances at the national meet. Rick Mihm is also an alternate in the 400 IM.
Stanford is also eligible in the 800 free relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay – with the 800 free relay team having the sixth-fastest mark entering the national championships.
