PROVO, Utah – Stanford men's volleyball succumbed to No. 2 BYU, 25-16, 25-15, 25-16, Friday, at Smith Fieldhouse.
BYU (9-2) hit a blistering .510 for the match, while holding the Cardinal (0-6) to a .070 clip. The Cougars posted 7.5 blocks to just 1.5 by Stanford and had a 17-6 advantage in digs.
Freshman opposite Kupono Browne led the Cardinal with seven kills and two aces. Senior middle blocker Kyler Presho hit .400 with five kills and just one error on 10 swings.
Sophomore setter Nathan Lietzke finished with 19 assists, while redshirt sophomore libero Justin Lui had three digs. Sophomore Will Rottman added five kills and a dig.
BYU, which posted a sideout rate of 89 percent for the match, was led by Gabi Garcia Fernandez's seven kills on .417 hitting, and two aces. Zach Eschenberg had a match-high eight kills.
Stanford and BYU meet again on Saturday at 6 p.m. on BYUtv.
