WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Corinne Zanolli scored twice to lead a dominant offensive attack as Stanford blanked Vermont 3-0 in its season opener on Saturday morning.
Stanford (1-0, 1-0 America East) opened America East play with a victory on the first leg of its two-game road swing, which concludes Sunday against host Monmouth.
The Cardinal held an 11-5 advantage in shots, five of which came off the stick of Zanolli, who found the cage six minutes into the game for her 75th career goal.
Frances Carstens increased the lead to 2-0 at the 21:52 mark, scoring off a penalty corner with assists from Megan Frost and Sarah Johnson.
Zanolli added her second goal in the 34th minute, scoring from the opposite post thanks to an assist from Kaylie Mings. The most prolific scorer in school history, Zanolli has totaled 76 goals in 65 career games.
Lily Croddick added two shots while Hannah Santos made one save to preserve the shutout.
