STANFORD, Calif. - No. 26 Stanford passed its first test of the season, taking down No. 25 Arizona State 4-1 on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Facing a ranked opponent for the first time this season, Stanford (6-0, 3-0 Pac-12) looked sharp and won all the clutch points in a closer-than-it-looked victory over Arizona State (9-4, 3-1 Pac-12).
In addition to winning 72 of its last 76 matches at Taube Family Tennis Stadium, the Cardinal has won 41 of its last 42 regular-season Pac-12 contests.
Leading 1-0 after doubles, Ana Geller and Emily Arbuthnott sandwiched singles wins around Arizona State's only point.
Emma Higuchi's 99th career singles victory provided the clincher on court six.
Stanford's seven-match homestand resumes on Saturday against Arizona at 12 p.m.
