TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 18 Stanford beach volleyball program defeated Arizona State and Washington on Sunday to move its winning streak to 10 matches in a row. The 10-match winning streak is Stanford's second longest in school history, behind 11 straight during the 2018 campaign.
The Cardinal finished the Pac-12 South Invitational 4-0, improving to 11-3 on the season in the process.
Stanford had an impressive week, winning all eight matches it played, and all away from home. Among the Cardinal's impressive victories was a 4-1 win over No. 6 Hawai'i on Monday in Davis, Calif., a 3-2 victory at No. 8 Grand Canyon on Thursday and a 3-2 win at No. 14 Arizona on Saturday.
Stanford's No. 2 pair of Xolani Hodel and Kate Reilly, both true freshmen, went 8-0 on the week and dropped just two total sets. That pair is now 11-2 on the season. The Cardinal No. 1 pair of Charlie Ekstrom and Sunny Villapando went 7-1 on the week, dropping just four total sets along the way. They are also 11-2 as a duo this season.
At the third flight, Maddie Kriz and Maya Harvey went 7-1 on the week to improve to 11-3 this season. They lost just three total sets in eight matches. Maddie Dailey and Jordan McKinney played all eight matches at the No. 4 flight, going 6-2 on the week, while Amelia Smith and Emmy Sharp went 3-0 at the fifth flight this weekend.
Stanford heads to St. Mary's to play a Thursday dual with the Gaels before hosting Cal and Cal Poly on Saturday.
