STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford never trailed against UCLA, but its' 12-11 victory at Avery Aquatic Center on Saturday was close throughout.

Chloe Harbilas, Sarah Klass, and Jewel Roemer scored three goals apiece, and Hannah Constandse had two as No. 2 Stanford improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Klass also had two steals and Cardinal goalie Emalia Eichelberger had 10 saves.

The margin never extended beyond three goals and No. 3 UCLA (4-1, 2-1) closed within a single goal eight times and pulled even at 8-8 with 3:31 left in the third quarter. Klass and Roemer each scored to give Stanford a 10-8 lead, but the Bruins closed within a goal three more times and had a chance to tie in the final seconds.

After Sophie Wallace put the Cardinal in front, 12-10, with 55 seconds left, UCLA's Anneliese Miller answered 16 seconds later after the Bruins had pulled their goalie.

Stanford used the entire shot clock, but UCLA had a final possession with four seconds left and its final shot was saved by Eichelberger.

After a season-opening loss to Arizona State, the Cardinal has won six straight. Klass leads the squad with 24 goals and Harbilas is next with 18.
