STANFORD, Calif. – A Pac-12 match, regardless of if it counts toward the conference standings, is always a battle. Stanford women's soccer battled through 110 minutes of scoreless soccer to conclude the weekend unbeaten, Sunday against Oregon.
The match did not count towards the conference standings.
The Cardinal (5-3-1, 4-1-0 Pac-12) fired off 18 shots – nine on goal – but could not find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw against the Ducks. Stanford out-shot Oregon six-to-one over both overtime periods, and controlled possession for much of the game.
Maya Doms led Stanford with four shots, three on target, and she was followed by Civana Kuhlmann with two shots on goal. Kuhlmann had a potential game-winner be saved by Leah Freeman in the 107th minute. Kiki Pickett sent a free kick from distance and to the box, but Kuhlmann could not get the proper angle on the header.
The Cardinal back-line limited Oregon (5-3-3, 3-2-1) to only two shots on goal, with goalkeeper Katie Meyer making saves on both. The Ducks twice were set up with free kicks from within 25 yards, but the Stanford defense made the necessary plays on both for its second clean sheet of the year.
Stanford will hit the road for a pair of Pac-12 matches against the Arizona schools, April 2, and April 4. With UCLA's loss to Arizona State on Friday night, the Cardinal trail the Bruins by only 0.1 PPG for first in the conference standings.
