Dominant Against Davis

Box Score Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford remained unbeaten, cruising past UC Davis 3-0 on Monday night in the first of two home games this season at the Varsity Turf.

The Cardinal (4-0, 3-0 America East) was relentless offensively, outshooting the Aggies (1-5, 0-3 America East) by a 26-6 margin while holding a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Lily Croddick, Frances Carstens and Sarah Johnson found the cage for Stanford, which was fueled by 18 shot attempts from Corinne Zanolli, who was held scoreless for the first time this season.

Fresh off a three-game road sweep to open the season, the Cardinal produced its third shutout of the season thanks to a stingy defense that rarely allowed UC Davis to generate serious momentum.

After a scoreless first period, Croddick gave Stanford a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, taking a cross from Lynn Vanderstichele and beating the keeper for her second goal of the season.

Carstens and Johnson scored unassisted goals eight minutes apart in a stretch that bridged the third and fourth periods to ice the game.

Hannah Santos finished with four saves.

Stanford returns to action on Tuesday, April 6, visiting California to open a three-game, six-day stretch.
