LOS ANGELES – The Stanford men's water polo team opened the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament with a 13-0 victory over Penn State Behrend on Friday at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center.
The No. 3 seeded Cardinal (4-3) advances to the semifinals against No. 2 seed UCLA (6-5) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Beck Jurasius scored Stanford's first two goals against Penn State Behrend (0-2), which opened its season earlier Friday with a 19-7 loss to Austin in the Nos. 5/6 seed contest. After goals by AJ Rossman and Ethan Parrish, Stanford led 4-0 after only 3:25 had elapsed in the game.
Jurasius finished as the game-high scorer, with three. It was the fifth multi-goal game for the sophomore, which leads the team.
Parrish scored twice and Nolan Krutonog collected the rare shutout despite facing 23 shots. He made 13 saves.
Stanford and UCLA have played twice this season, both Bruin victories – 15-13 on Feb. 7 at USC and 11-10 at Stanford on Feb. 20.
