TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second time in as many games, the Cardinal surged in the fourth period. The difference was this time, No. 2 Stanford had a built in lead, earning its first victory of the 2021 season, 12-6 over No. 5 Arizona State.

Stanford was the aggressor early, shooting out to a quick 3-0 lead over the Sun Devils behind two goals from Chloe Harbilas and another from Hannah Constandse.
The lead would swell to 5-1, before Arizona State cut the deficit to 6-4, and then 7-5 in the third period. The match got tense, as the Sun Devils pressed to within one, but adversity is where Stanford proved resilient, as the Cardinal responded with five straight goals, while shutting out the Sun Devils in the fourth.
Stanford held Arizona State to only 1-of-10 in power play situations, converting three of its own.
